Nina Chakrabarti

I discovered Nina Chakrabarti through Martha Stewart magazine and looked up her site—her artwork is incredible. The line quality is loose and rough, but simultaneously controlled and beautifully composed. Here are examples of two of her projects, "Voodoo Queens" for I Want You Magazine (what she called Interventionist Doodles—I wonder if she got permission to use those fashion photos or if they are considered non-commercial art...) and stills from a campaign for Mazda in the UK.

Here is a snippet from her About page:
Nina was born and spent her early life in Calcutta, India. She moved to the UK in her teens carrying her stamp collection under her arm and little else.

A stamp collection is a tightly-packed universe in and of itself. Thousands of tiny worlds stuffed into a binder. I imagine hers as puffy with pages, spilling over at the edges, kept together only by the firm grip she has on it tucked under her arm. A once and future collector.
